Chief E.D. WilliamsE.D. Williams, Chief of Police

Chief Williams is 68 years old and married to Barbara. They celebrated their 47th anniversary in September 2008. They have two children and four grandchildren. He is a sixth generation Florida native and a descendant of a Pioneer Florida family. A former Sergeant, United States Army with Foreign Service in Korea, he earned his BA Degree from USF in 1975, plus Graduate Studies.

He retired from the City of Tampa Police Department in 1987 with 25 years of service as Deputy Chief - Colonel of Operations.

Chief Williams is the seventh and longest-serving Police Chief of the Indian Shores Police Deparmtent, completing nineteen years in December 2008. The Chief is an active member of the National Police Chief's Association and a life member of the Florida Police Chief's Association. He has also served 25 years on the Board of Directors for DUI Counterattack Hillsborough, Inc. and is its current and longest serving President.

Chief Williams is a resident of Redington Shores and Riverview. His hobbies are fishing and hunting.

Major Hughes and his wife Pam, who works for the P.C.S.O. Communications Section, have seven children, five grandchildren and are expecting their sixth grandchild in February 2010.

Major Hughes was the Chief of Police with a Police Department in Ohio before moving to Florida in 1990. He has been with the Indian Shores Police Department nearly twenty years and has worked his way up the ranks from Detective, Lieutenant, Captain to his current rank of Major. Major Hughes is the head of the Patrol and Detective Units and also does the department's Internal Affairs investigations.

Terry was awarded a Silver Star for Bravery by the Police Hall of Fame in 1994 for his bravery in an armed combat confrontation with an armed robber. As Captain Hughes puts it, "the bad guy shot and missed, I shot back and didn't." Major Hughes is also one of the department's Marine Officers and has been recognized for his life saving efforts when he saved a family of six from their burning vessel on Memoral Day in 2007.

Although he has no intentions of retiring any time soon, Terry has said he hopes to retire one day, spoil his grandchildren and write his memoirs.

Requesting a Vehicle Impound Release

Vehicle Impound Releases are processed Monday through Friday during the hours of 8:00 am - 4:00 pm unless a previous appointment time has been scheduled.

All vehicles are subject to be released the following day during business hours as long as a "hold" has not been placed on the vehicle. (A "hold" can be placed if the vehicle is needed for further investigation or pending charges.


Vehicles will only be released to the registered owner. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Bring the following items with you to the Indian Shores Police Department:
  • Two Forms of Identification (state issued photo id, passport or social security card)
  • One Form of Proof of Ownership (Title or Registration)
  • Proof of Active Insurance on the Vehicle

Requesting Copies of a Police Report

Requests for copies of a police report must be made Monday through Friday during the hours of 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Requests may be made over the phone or in person. Please allow 24 hours for your request to be processed.

All Police Reports that are eligible for release are subject to a cost of .15 per page. If you are requesting audio, video or electronic records, you may be required to provide a media device on which to download the records.

Once the reporting officer's report has been submitted and approved, a copy of a police report can be obtained provided there is no active criminal investigation. All juvenile and confidential reports that are able to be released will be redacted.
