Early Warning Evacuation Siren Systems
Early Warning Evacuation Siren Systems (EWESS) stations are designed to deliver immediate alerts during storm events and mandatory evacuations, ensuring residents and visitors receive critical warnings when time is of the essence. Two are installed in Indian Shores and one in Redington Shores, and all three are audible north of Indian Rocks Beach, down to Madeira Beach, and in communities across the intracoastal waterway. Their importance lies in providing a reliable, audible signal that can reach individuals who may not have access to cell phones, internet, or television at the moment an evacuation order is issued. In coastal communities vulnerable to hurricanes and other severe weather, this redundancy is a vital part of the Comprehensive Emergency Management and Police Services Evacuation Plan. The new siren system is fully integrated with the National Weather Service and can be controlled locally, including remote operation via smartphone. Regular testing is conducted to guarantee that the siren system is always functional and ready.
