A Friendly Reminder - Dune Plantings

Our team has been hard at work completing several important projects that strengthen our community and improve the services we provide. From stormwater system maintenance to facility upgrades and ongoing public safety improvements, these accomplishments reflect our commitment to keeping the Town running smoothly and responsibly.

As we continue this progress, I want to share an important reminder about our coastal dunes. Recently planted dune vegetation is now taking root, and these plants are essential for stabilizing the shoreline, reducing erosion, and protecting our community during storm surge and other severe weather events.

Please help us protect this natural barrier by staying off the dunes and using designated beach access points. Even a small amount of foot traffic can damage young plants and weaken the dune system we rely on for storm protection.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we work together to preserve and strengthen our beautiful coastal environment.

🌧️ Stormwater System Update: Retention Pond Maintenance Behind Town Hall 🌿

The Town is continuing its commitment to protecting local water quality and reducing flooding risks by performing routine maintenance on the retention ponds behind Town Hall. These ponds are a key part of our stormwater system and help us stay compliant with Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) standards and our MS4 stormwater requirements.

What’s happening:

• Clearing debris and excess vegetation
• Removing sediment from inlets and outlets
• Inspecting stormwater structures for proper flow
• Repairing erosion along pond banks

These efforts keep the ponds functioning as designed and help prevent pollutants from entering nearby waterways.

A big thank‑you to our Public Services team.  Their ongoing work in inspecting storm drains, maintaining clear flow paths, responding after storms, and documenting maintenance activities keeps our MS4 system operating smoothly and effectively year‑round.  Photos provided below of the completed project behind Town Hall.

Maintaining our stormwater system protects our community, our environment, and our compliance with state and federal regulations. We appreciate everyone’s support as this important work continues.
