[ARCHIVED] Free Shredding Event May 6

Free Shred Day

Pinellas County Solid Waste and Consumer Protection are hosting a free paper shredding event on Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Solid Waste Administration Bldg, 3095 114th Ave. N, St. Petersburg.

The event will provide Pinellas County residents a safe and convenient way to participate in recycling while properly disposing of documents with personal information that could otherwise get in the wrong hands and lead to identity theft.

Free shredding event on Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., at Pinellas County Solid Waste in St. Petersburg (first driveway south of 118th Ave. N. on 28th St. N)
• Event offered to Pinellas County residents
• Limit of six file-size boxes or bags per vehicle
• All paper must be dry, free of all metal clips and removed from three-ring binders

Identity theft affects an estimated 17.6 million Americans—about seven percent of all adults—according to the latest figures from the federal Bureau of Justice Statistics. Shredding eliminates the risk of identity theft while disposing of sensitive documents.

Residents can bring up to six file-size boxes or bags per vehicle. Staples, rubber bands, paper clips and paper folders are allowed, but documents should be free of metal clips, wet paper, metal file hangers, binder clips and removed from three-ring binders.

All documents brought to the event will be shredded with a secure off-site AAA NAID Certified shredding company. More information about AAA NAID Certification is available at www.naidonline.org

In addition to helping prevent identity theft, participants will be helping the environment as well, as the shredded material will be recycled.
