URGENT BEACH NOURISHMENT NEWS – 09/28/2023
TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION EASEMENTS NEEDED
As you are aware, our beach experienced significant erosion following our brush with Hurricane Idalia.
Pinellas County is mobilizing a project to get sand put back on our beaches. This sand is being trucked in from a mine that is 90 miles away. The county has already begun mobilization of the project to areas of the beaches that were harder hit than ours. In order for our beach to be included in this project, the county needs Temporary Construction Easements.
Temporary Construction Easements are being hand-delivered in town where the mailing address on the Pinellas County Property Appraiser’s website for the property is an Indian Shores address. If the mailing address is outside of Indian Shores, a packet is being mailed via Priority Mail Express with a signature required.
The Temporary Construction Easement will allow the county to place sand on your property that lies seaward of the Coastal Construction Control Line. (see easement for full information)
Please Note: You don’t have to wait to receive your packet in the mail. You are welcome to come by Town Hall Monday – Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. and we can print a copy of your easement and have it executed. We will be available beginning Monday, October 2, 2023.
All easements must be signed in front of two witnesses and a notary. If you are local, you can come by Town Hall any time Monday – Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. to sign your easement and have it notarized.
If you are not signing at Town Hall and a notary is not present when you sign, one of the witnesses can take the signed easement along with the enclosed Affidavit & Certificate of Proof by Subscribing Witness to a notary and have it notarized. A self-addressed, stamped envelope is included in the envelope you will receive for your convenience to return your executed easement and affidavit (if needed).
Time is of the essence to ensure that Indian Shores benefits from the distribution of this sand. As evidenced by Idalia, any further storms could be catastrophic. Please send the enclosed signed and notarized easement back at your earliest convenience.
Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.
