[ARCHIVED] AFTER THE STORM: Building Permitting for Emergency Repairs

We understand that the impact of Hurricanes Helene and Milton has placed many homeowners in an urgent and challenging situation, with an immediate need for home repairs.

At this time, regarding "Emergency Permitting" for repairs:

  • We are working with SAFEbuilt, LLC, a construction engineering firm, to support our Building Department in expediting the permitting and plan review processes.
  • Permits will be issued solely for emergency repairs necessary to secure properties for health and safety purposes, and to protect your home from further damage caused by exposure to the elements. Renovations or structural modifications, plumbing, electrical work,  and interior finish work (i.e. cabinets, flooring) do not qualify as emergency repairs.
  • One (1) sheet of drywall can be applied to fire-rated walls. However, an inspection is required prior to applying a second sheet of drywall.
  • The Building Department will only issue permits to licensed contractors.
  • Licensed contractors must fill out the Permit Application (pdf) form (or see online link below).

Please email permits@myindianshores.com if you have any questions.

We sincerely appreciate and thank you for your patience during our Town’s recovery.
